Yarnist Magazine

The Project

Almost 60% of knitters do not use the internet to find patterns or resources for their hobby. I wanted to create a print publication that repurposed our online content.

The Goal

Create a bi-monthly knitting magazine for print and digital.

The Content

Our differentiating factor was the incorporation of multi media elements as an extension of written content.

Interviews were transcribed and edited from podcasts, tutorials were pulled from videos, and patterns linked to techniques on our website.

Two issues were produced:

1. A smaller preview edition used as a lead magnet.

2. One full fledged issue as a proof of concept.

The Results

The crowdfunding campaign pulled in almost $45,000 with support from more than 1,500 people.

Unfortunately delays due to COVID lockdowns, paper supply shortages, and inflation made publishing a print magazine unsustainable.

Instead I decided to pivot to a daily email newsletter.
